Day 6
(It’s been a few days because of our lack of internet access. So we’ll try to catch up… one day at a time.)
Beware of tour guide suggestions
The Dream Hotel evoked the wrong kind of dreams. The mattress and sheets felt…. used, the view was depressing, and the bathroom/shower-room-thingy was…. special (if you like showering over your toilet). We dutifully made it to the lobby by 7am per our tour guides orders to go next door for an awful breakfast that for no apparent reason included croutons, but not in the good way. Off to the pier, on to a boat, and arrive at a… resort? We take a short swim in the cold and dirty water, and ask to leave early. Thanks again to Erika and her Lonely Planet travel book, we end up at an amazing restaurant with a pool right on the beach. We chow down and then hit the waves. Glorious, warm, clean and clear, this beach was heavenly. And just as we were getting to know the beauty of Ngha Trang, our guide rushes us back into the van as we must make our way up the mountain towards Dalat, but of course once we got in the van, he drove to the nearby market for some shopping. We declined. Then to a Pagoda with a couple of giant Buddhas. Admittedly, that was cool. Back into the van. Round and round up the mountain we go. Round and round all our stomachs went. Our cousin Hanh was about to lose her chicken in lemon grass. We arrive at yet another no star hotel, with no windows or internet but a much larger bathroom/shower-room-tatoom-thingy. Our guide cheerfully escorted us to a restaurant where ants seem to be on the menu…. and the table, in our foods, and up our legs. The food taste like our dreamy sheets… used. After we got down what we could of our entrées, we escaped, consulted the travel book and found a little café to end the night with a tasty dessert and a large grin because all and all the company more than made up for the accommodations. Our new found family is full of cheer, wit, and funny stories. So we spent the rest of the evening jesting as we reviewed our day together over ice cream and cake (which does have a way of saving the day) and finding satisfaction that the day was coming to an end... or so we thought. You see we never really escaped dinner, it came back to haunt us both seven or eight times throughout the night. We became quite personal with our bathroom/shower-room-tatoom-thingamajiggy. Uh… excuse me…. My stomach is feeling… gotta GO!
